Re: email hijacking
I had the same (bad) experience as you just a few days ago. To
the best of my understanding, this is what has happened to you
and what you can do about it. Your computer has been “infected”
by the kind of a "virus" program known as a "bot" which is short
for "robot" because it turns your computer into a robot under
the "command" of the "bad guys" that wrote the "bot" software
to begin with. These "bot" programs will spread themselves
to thousands of computers, and then they will send out
"advertising" emails to some, many, or all of the email addresses
on each of the computers they have "infected" thus potentially
spreading the advertising to millions of computers. As you might
imagine, there are some less than "morally upstanding" companies
that are willing to pay for a service that will get their
advertising message in front of millions of people. If you do
nothing, the "bot" program will continue to "live" in your
computer and will send out more advertising whenever the "bad
guys" tell it to. The best thing to do is to get some "anti-
virus" software for your computer (I use one called "AVG Free")
that will scan for "virus" programs of all kinds and remove them
from your computer. My "anti-virus" program is set to run every
24 hours, so I guess the "bot" that "infected" my computer snuck
in and accomplished its "dirty work" sometime between scans.
For all of us email users, whenever we receive an email from
someone we know that is not what we normally expect to get from
them, we should notify them immediately that we received it, and
tell them if they didn't knowingly send it, they should run a
virus checking scan on their computer right away. If everyone
would do this, it would probably bring an end to the "bot"
software fairly soon as it would make it a much less effective
way to spread advertising.

Re: This Week's Birthdays
Saw in this morning's [1/9/12] Sandstorm that I have already
missed a couple of Fun-Fun class of '71 birthdays this week.
Maren noted that Monday was her younger sister, Edna's, birthday.
Edna would have been class of '71 if her Dad had not hauled her
off to the bayous at an impressionable age and tried to make a
cajun of her. Last time I saw her was about 4th grade but she
will always be part of our shared CKS/Bomber heritage. The
Sandstorm also noted that Kristi MAGULA Privette ('71) celebrated
her Birthday on Monday. What the Sandstorm failed to note was
that it was also her twin brother Kevin "Joe" MAGULA's ('71)
birthday. I remember as a kid knowing that the guy we all knew as
Joe actually had a given name of Kevin... but heaven help you if
you called him Kevin. Not sure exactly why he was Joe... guess it
went with older brother Pat ('70-RIP) and younger brother Willie
('72) better. Hope all 3 of you had a great day (it is actually
Monday morning as I write this so also hoping you have a great
day today...)
Tuesday [1/10/12] we get to do a shout out to our favorite
Bomber... Devil in a Blue Dress... CougBabe... Judy STEIN
Mitchell ('71). Judy was probably one of the most talented
athletes to ever grace the halls of Col-Hi... unfortunately she
was there well before Title IX opened the doors to women in
sports other than Tennis. I'm sure if they had swimming or track
or any of a number of other sports that Judy would still hold
some of the school best records. And other than those delusional
years when she rooted for her kids at Wa Hi... she has led an
exemplary life. She also gets extra credit for persistently
rooting the Cougs through thick and thin. Come to think of it...
that delusional thing started about her 2nd year in Pullman. Have
a great day, Judy !!!
I cannot let Wednesday [1/11/12] pass without a nod to two
NON class of '71 guys who, nevertheless, have strong and deep
connections to our class. Pretty amazing that these 2 guys share
the same birthday... one of my bestest friends ever and a guy I
miss every day... George "Big G" Dana ('70-RIP) and Little Lenny
PARIS ('69). Both are LEGENDS in Richland and kept (and in
Len's case, still keep) legions of Bomber Buddies laughing and
entertained. Lenny has now added another reason to stay close and
in his good graces... for those of you who have never been to his
winery... Chandler Reach... it is a "must do" thing next time you
are driving from Richland to Yakima. His winery is just outside
Benton City and he does some pretty awesome wines and the Winery
itself has a real Tuscan feel to it. If you are lucky... Len
might just be there and can tell you how he PERSONALLY plants all
the grapes, waters them by hand, does all the harvesting and then
stomps the darn things and turns them into wine. Where does he
find the time?
Finally on Thursday [1/12/12], need to tip the ole Bomber Bowler
to Roger McColley ('71). Roger was one of the true brains in our
class and a great guy to sit next to... he was not beyond letting
you take a peek at his answers... not that I ever would but nice
to know you could.
We have no one from our class that is a Friday the 13th baby...
that honor goes to Pat RUANE ('75). I think.
Not sure what is going to happen in the big LSU 'Bama game tonite
but, based on the Saints performance Sunday... I am predicting a
pretty major win by LSU. Even should they NOT win... I am still
racking up some bonus points with Maren simply by siding with her
Tigers. If only they could have hung on to that Sabin guy...
[See entry from "AKA" earlier in this edition. Maren]
I'm out of here...
-Vic MARSHALL ('71) ~ from Balmy Beverly Hills, MI... where the
foreign press is getting the surprise of their lives at the
North American Auto Show... which starts today. Normally
they need to bundle up and fight the snow and cold... it's
supposed to be 45° today and going to stay that way until
Friday. Might just be a run in convertibles this year...
