The picture of Larry MATTINGLY ('60) and Pat MURRAY ('60) was
probably around 1956 or so. Pat was my next door neighbor and
though we were four years apart in age, we did a lot of stuff
together and seeing his size in this picture tells me it was
probably around 1956. I graduated in June of 1956 so I am
thinking that was about the time of this picture. It must have
been taken around J. Larry's house because Pat MURRAY ('60), Bill
BERLIN ('56) and Bruce BERLIN (KHS '60), Jim RUSSELL ('58) and
Jack RUSSELL ('60-RIP) and Caroline HAMILTON ('60) and Jimbeaux
HAMILTON ('63) lived in "F" Houses in a row along GWWay and the
houses in the pictures were not "F" Houses.
Pat went on to become a CPA, as I recall, in Bellevue, WA but I
have not heard from him in years. Pat, if you read this send me
an e-mail.
-Bill BERLIN ('56) ~ in Rancho Mirage, CA where we just had a
small dust storm and I am helping the wife clean up and
dust using my replica LSU football jersey as a dust rag.
Fitting don't you think?

Re: Max CASE ('57-RIP)
Yesterday, we learned about the death of another good guy. I'm
sure everyone of the class of '57 admired and respected Max.
He was our senior class president. A smart fella too. He loved
people and he loved a good joke. I can't remember how far back
this was, but he called me from Washington D.C. He said I would
forever remember a call from the President.
Max moved to the Midwest after high school and the only contact I
had with him was via telephone. That may not seem to be much, but
those contacts can keep and nurture friendships. What friend have
you been thinking of lately? Who would appreciate hearing from
you? Make someone's day before it's too late.
Life is like a vapor. The Psalmist said something like this; As
for man, his days are like grass. He blossoms like a flower in
the field; the wind passes over it and it is gone, with not a
sign it was ever there. (103)
-Ray LOESCHER ('57) ~ From Desert Hot Springs, CA where it's
cool (60°) and windy, but better than the snow back home
in Tumwater.

Re: Heart Attack
Thursday (1/19/12) started out like any ordinary day. I belong
to a stamp club (making cards with rubber stamps) and our monthly
meeting was that day. About an hour after I got up, had my
shower, etc., I began to have chest pain. I thought, 'man, I feel
like I'm having a heart attack.' Then I thought it was probably
just indigestion, so I took some Alka Seltzer, which did not
help. I was a little nauseous and a little dizzy, so Dena EVANS
Harr ('64) drove us to stamp club (some things are important!).
When we got there I continued to have chest pain and high pulse
rate. There was a nurse's assistant there who took my pulse a
couple of times. The first was 127, and the second was 142. At
this point everyone in our club was saying I needed to go to the
emergency room or at least call my doctor. I am not stubborn, I
am firm and resolute. I wanted to make that last card (got the
first two done in spite of it all).
I used the bathroom, but couldn't make it back to the dining
room, so I sat on the sofa in the living room. Dena and Mary
MASSEY Holloway ('64), my very dear friends, both said that I was
white as a sheet and at that point was perspiring and short of
breath. I called my doctor who said go to emergency room. Dena
loaded me into the car and drove to Kennewick General.
Well, dang, they did all the stuff I knew they would do... EKG,
blood work, chest x-ray pulse ox, etc. What a waste of time and
money I can ill afford! I just wanted to go home. Then my doctor
came in and told me that it was a heart attack and they were
sending me over to Kadlec by ambulance for an angiogram. 'Oh', I
thought, 'it's not very serious, as the EKG was fine, although
enzymes in the blood were slightly elevated.
At Kadlec, they did several more EKGs and drew blood several
times more. If you saw my arms, you would think I was a drug
addict. The had to poke me twice to place the first IV line; then
at Kadlec, they had to poke me twice again to place the second IV
line. They did an angioplasty, inserting a stent into my heart.
Guess it wasn't waste of time after all. Well I entered Kennewick
General on Thursday around 11:30 AM and was released about the
same time from Kadlec on Saturday. I am home, recuperating well.
So, the point is, if you're having chest pains and you don't know
why, CALL YOUR DOCTOR!
Praise the Lord, I woke up on the right side of the grass. lol
