A tip of the ol' propeller beanie is in order for a fellow classmate. Think he might get a little p.o.ed If I was to call him not a Bomber, as his is, to the best of my knowledge, true green and gold; and hopefully not a Duck fan. Let's have a rousing "Happy Birthday!" for Bob MEAKINS ('54). -Bob Carlson, aka Mike CLOWES ('54) ~ Mount Angel, OR where the warm weather continues although temps are supposed to drop to the mid-70s. **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: Tom HUGHES ('56) Re: Bill THOMAS'('60) Birthday http://AlumniSandstorm.com/Xtra/Hug/Thomas_Birthday.jpg This is Bill at the Mall on his 72nd birthday. -Tom HUGHES ('56) **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: Gus KEENEY ('57) Re: George BARNETT ('63-RIP) Bummer... I just saw the note about George Barnett passing away in his sleep... I am really going to miss the notes signed ... "By GEO"!!!! We were supposed to get together with him this winter to do some Jeep Trails around the Tucson area. GODSPEED, GEO!!!! May you have Fair Winds and Following Seas, GEO !!!!! -Gus KEENEY ('57) **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: Frank WHITESIDE ('63) Re: George BARNETT ('63-RIP) I have to say I am seriously shocked to hear that my old buddy, George, had passed away. What a great guy! We went through a lot in our 4 years of ag, basketball, trips to Yellowstone, our visit to him in Tucson and other stuff. He and Peg visited my son and I at our cabin in Estes Park, CO in June (now sold). We visited for an hour or so and talked about the usual stuff. My son talked about wanting to run around the Grand Canyon. As expected, Georgie volunteered him the use of the cabin that he loved so much. I still picture him as the tall, skinny blond haired guy he was in high school. When I saw him again, he looked more like a football player. He loved to joke around and always seemed to know a lot about nearly everything. I really can’t say enough about him. He was a great friend... always ready and willing to help anyone with anything. My deepest sympathy to his entire family. We'll miss, Georgie, until the next big, final reunion! Sadly, -Frank WHITESIDE ('63) ~ Bayou Gauche, LA **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: Jim HAMILTON ('63) Re: George BARNETT ('63-RIP) Have spent most of the last 24 hours reflecting on the untimely passing of my friend, George, one of the truly good guys. George was committed to making everyone’s life just that much better and had amazing compassion toward his fellow man. He was truly the friend you always wanted and the friend you always wanted to be. I said it when Freddie ('63-RIP) left us and I'll say it again, "The beer will just never be as cold". -jimbeaux -Jim HAMILTON ('63) **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: David RIVERS ('65) Re: I can't quite grasp the loss Of George BARNETT ('63)... I am sure it will hit me but at the moment I am just numb. For some reason I ran across town to work on a car before reading the Sandstorm this morning. As I reflected on the last few days of our little daily paper, I thought I should avoid being chastised by the "Oracle", Jimbeaux for not mentioning the passing of one of my favorite music makers, Paul Revere (NAB) the same night as it turns out George passed. I got a note from Gus KEENEY ('57) about George which made me rush to open the Sandstorm. George and I became very good buds at some point in say the last 10 or more years... we just hit it off and nearly every day I could count on an off-color story in my email from George... I really counted on them... usually I'd get them twice as Leo WEBB ('63) would often forward them to me again after George had sent them. I am pretty much speechless as I still cannot quite grasp his loss. The last semester or quarter of my Jr. year, my family moved to Camas, WA. No normally that would be a sore spot in my life... leaving Richland... but it was one of those turning points in my life... .there were only two of us "new kids" from big schools to move to the little town and we were watched like hawks. Naturally I started going with the girl of our trio, a large bosomed, blonde beach bunny from Long Beach. The other guy was trouble from the word go so we naturally clicked... It was during my first view of life away from Richland that I met Paul Revere, Mark Lindsay and the rest of the Raiders... they were a huge local band much as the Wailers were further North... I assume they were big all over the Northwest, but all I knew is I could go see them practically every weekend. THE radio station was KISN which blasted its music from the "KISN (Kissin') corner in Portland with the real Don Steele and other really great DJs... I was familiar with Don from his days playing second fiddle to Linster the Spinster ('57) in Richland... years later I would find myself drinking with Paul, Mark and Chuck Berry in Vegas trying to recapture those old days... even later he would spot me in the audience and if my little Sarah was with me, she'd be treated to a three cornered hat. Thankfully, I returned to Richland to finish and grageate, but this little field trip really opened my eyes to another world. God bless George and Paul in their journey. -David RIVERS ('65) **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: Pat DORISS Trimble ('65) Re: George BARNETT ('63-RIP) Beth BARNETT Vickstrom ('65) asked me to provide Sandstorm readers with the information on the Funeral Service and Burial of her brother, George, who passed away on October 5th.
