Re: Celebration of Life for Ray LOESCHER ('57-RIP)

Ray's Celebration of Life at Westwood Baptist Church in Tumwater,
WA was exceptionally long but never boring. About 150 attended, and
25-30 friends and family stood up, took the microphone and shared
memories ? funny things he said and did, and the many Christian
services he had given others... such as paint churches, help
seniors file taxes and get coverage for medical care, sit with
dying neighbors and encourage down-and-outers at the mission. His
three children sang "Amazing Grace" like a trio of angels. The
pastor read the funeral speech Ray had written for him, and added
dozens of personal memories, scriptures and music. At the end of
the service, the pastor placed in Gayle's arms a bouquet of roses
from Ray ? ordered two months before he died. Romantic Ray had sung
"Tea for Two" to her on their first date, and Gayle wanted "Tea for
Two" played on the overhead video as a fitting closure.

Ray wanted me to tell you that he regretted skipping Club 40
activities in his later life. When he finally made up his mind to
attend my 60-year reunion with Club 40, he was amazed at how much
fun I was having. He was very sad that several of his closest
Bomber friends passed away before he could see them. Of course,
he phoned and wrote messages, but he truly wanted to meet in the
flesh. He urged everyone to include Club 40 in their plans, and I
couldn't agree more heartily.

Blessings... Joy, love and peace,

Hey! Boys and girls! It's time for another tip of the ol'
propeller beanie. Yep, yet another Bomber is celebrating a
birthday today. Seems like I've know him forever, but really only
since I got hooked up with Club 40. That would be that he is a
"senior" Bomber, but one who transcends all ages and classes. Let
us now have a very hearty "Happy Birthday!" for Rex DAVIS ('49).
Fortunately, he's not old enough to have his name mentioned by
Willard Scott (yet).

On another note, glad to hear that the Junior Gyrene (aka
"Tooter") got his eyeballs re-calibrated. Does this mean he can
now read all the fine print in those legal documents he
originated?

Re: Brad UPTON ('74)

Yesterday I picked up a section of the Arizona Republic newspaper
and much to my delight I found a very nice article about Brad.
Congratulations. Good press is always welcome I'm sure.

Re: SNAFU

People who know me know that when I say I'm gonna do something...
I do it... that's that... so several weeks ago when Sally Stewart
announced she was having a memorial for her husband, long time LA
Roadster member, Jack, a bunch of us who knew Jack and Sally well
decided this was one we couldn't miss... it was an RSVP deal near
Buena Park so I made all the RSVPs and, as we would have time to
run to the Donut Derelicts made all the reservations a few minutes
from Adams and Magnolia so we could pop over, come back to the room
and spiffy up a bit (not a lot... just a bit... well button shirts
mainly)... all well and good... One of the stripers is having his
Van displayed in the SEMA show so he was driving from Ohio... I
map quested everything so I wouldn't pull my normal "where are we?"
stunt and have been ready to go all week... so today... one by one,
the guys started dropping out to the point that there were two of
us left... I canceled all but two reservations and gave the other
guy the opt out... I'm going I told him... I was not able to see
Jack since January when he was signing a book about his lost '41
Ford wild custom he had prolly 60 years ago which had been found
in Denmark, restored and was shown at the Grand National Roadster
Show... He was in the hospital during this L.A. Roadster Show and
I sent a card with one of the members that was heading for the
hospital... Jack was an avid collector of pin stripe panels,
according to an article the other day, he had 69 beautiful
panels... the stripers either loved Jack or they hated him...
ya see... he collected but he wanted them for free... most gave
them gladly... Magoo, who was supposed to ride with me, gave him
one several years back, as did Michelle... Michelle's was very
special... long before Jack's '41 Ford was found I was helping her
get a suitable subject for Jack's panel... she didn't want what
everyone else had done... I happened across a picture of his '41
Ford and she painted the car and striped around it... it was
magnificent... when she presented it to Jack (again long before
the car was found) he exclaimed: "That's MY car!"... by golly, I'm
gonna give Sally a big hug and let her know how much I will miss
the two of them (she won't be coming to shows by herself I am
sure)... I know that's way more information than you needed but I
hadda say it... I am very disappointed in the guys who flaked out
and now I've blown off steam and can let it go... I need to do
a bit of a group hug as I won't be able to send in a post for
Saturday and we gotta Bomber-babe who will be celebrating that
day... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Rex DAVIS ('49), Bobby "Tuna" MATTSON ('64)
on 10/31/14 and Micki LUND ('63) on 11/1/14 your special days!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
