Re: Mr. Cool

It was 70 years ago today that "Cool" came to walk this earth. He
wasn't just "Cool", he was the embodiment of "Cool ". Long before
there was an Arthur Fonzarelli, there was Dick PLOWS. He always
had "it", what ever "it" was.

Taken from us way too early, but we share a cold one pretty
often. Share one with Dick tonight, there's a good chance he'll
get you in trouble, but he'll always make you smile.

Re: 2015 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race
  http://www.iditarod.com/ - Official Iditarod Site

78 teams left Fairbanks in (bib number order) exactly 2 minutes apart
which took 2 hours 49 minutes. Teams make up the difference after they
take their mandatory 24 hour rest. In other words, Zoya DeNure wearing
Bib number 78 left Fairbanks 2 hours 49 minutes after the first team,
so she leaves off her 24-hour rest in exactly 24 hours. bib #79 in
24:02, bib #76 in 24:04, and so on and so on and so on until bib #1
leaves in 26:49 and THAT is when we will be able to tell which team is
REALLY in the lead. Right now this means NOTHING but it's stil
interesting:

OUT OF NANANA (908 MILES TO NOME - 90 miles to Manley)
01 Buser, Martin CHAMP/Bib #04 - 4 time champ
03 Jonrowe, DeeDee vet/Bib #29
04 Zirkle, Aliy vet/Bib #32 - 2nd in '14, '13, & '12
08 Buser, Rohn vet/Bib #31
11 Moore, Allen vet/Bib #57
16 Burmeister, Aaron vet/Bib #60 - running w/knee brace
18 Seavey, Dallas CHAMP/Bib #46 - 2 time champ
30 Baker, John CHAMP/Bib #78 -- still holds the speed record
33 King, Jeff CHAMP/Bib #59 - 4 time champ
34 Leifseth, Joar/Bib #16

IN NANANA (908 MILES TO NOME - 90 miles to Manley)
Nanana Pop: 386 - Checkpoint is Nenana railroad depot
38 Berrington, Kristy vet/Bib #11
40 Seavey, Mitch CHAMP/Bib #18 - 2 time champ - 55 years old
14 Janssen, Scott vet/Bib #20 - Mushing Mortician
43 Gebhart, Paul vet/Bib #28
44 Fiedler, Linwood vet/Bib #27
45 Lanier, Jim vet/Bib #13 - more than 1 have won wearing #13
51 Mackey, Lance CHAMP/Bib #30 - 4-in-a-row Champ
57 Berrington, Anna vet/Bib #39

OUT OF FAIRBANKS 968 MILES TO NOME - 60 miles to Nanana)
76 Mackey, Jason vet/Bib #72

Red LANTERN
78 Christian Tuner vet/Bib#79

Bomber Cheers and Peace

Re: WIAA 4A Boys State Tournament

The Federal Way Eagles beat the Davis Pirates 65 – 46 to win 1st
place in the state boys basketball tournament. They had played
Davis in the second game of the season and beat them by 45
points. This is the second championship in school history for
Federal Way who also won in 2009. They only had one graduating
senior from this team which includes Jalen McDaniels who is only
a junior and is 6' 9". The team is coached by Jerome Collins.
Here were the teams and their final placement:

1st ~ Federal Way
2nd ~ Davis
3rd ~ Union
4th ~ Issaquah
5th ~ Woodinville
6th ~ Kentwood

Re: WIAA 4A Girls State Tournament

The Gonzaga Prep Bullpups, whose assistant coach is John
Stockton, beat the Inglemoor Vikings in triple overtime winning
back-to-back championships with a score of 57 - 52. This was the
50th straight win for the Bullpups.

-Shirley COLLINGS Haskins ('66) ~ Richland where the high
      temperature is in the 70s.

Re: Iditarod restart in Fairbanks

Here is the link to a video about Mary Shields of Fairbanks. She
was the first woman to complete the Iditarod in 1974 (#23), and
she recalls the experience.

     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onDPhqg4Fnw

[VERY COOL... thanks, Gale... loved everything... I
stayed there and watched about Susan Butcher (RIP)...
her story of the moose stomp and killed 2 of her dogs
      in 1985... -Maren]

My friend, Tracey Porreca, is a pro photographer and I'm sure she
has taken amazing photos from today's restart in Fairbanks and
beyond. I will pass them along to you as I get them.
