Last week (2 weeks ago?) the curbs were poured and last week the blacktop was put down on the parking lot which is now on Jadwin. Entrance to the old school was on Cullum. I'm sorry I missed the "open house" some months ago--would have liked to see the interior. A TV report is better than nothing, but the real tour would have been great, I'm sure. Does anyone know what they'll do with the old building? Maybe offices? Re: Iditarod Thank you, Maren, for the wonderful coverage of the Iditarod. I haven't kept up with it except here on the Sandstorm and appreciate the info and, especially, the photos. I don't know how those people and dogs do it!!! Saw 2 of my Great-Grands (on Facebook) watching the "pretend" [ceremonial] start in Anchorage with no snow. Weird weather... but it's not the first time and likely won't be the last. Re: Patti's ALL Bomber Lunch There were just 8 of us at last Saturday's All-Bomber Luncheon. Good visits, though. That Lunch is the only time I usually see so many of "Us" and I had missed it for several months. Nice to see people looking happy and healthy. -Marilyn "Em" DeVINE ('52) ~ in a very pretty Richland, with trees blossoming and lots of flowers in bloom **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: Barb ISAKSON Rau ('58) Re: Bill HOYLE ('58) March 4, 2015 email from Dennis BARR ('58) aka MountnMan123 "William is out of the hospital and back at the nursing home. He is still weak, but hopefully he will get stronger. He started some chair exercise yesterday, so this is a start. Address: 7000 NW 32nd, Room 221, Bethany, OK 73008." -Barb ISAKSON Rau ('58) ~ Richland Thought it would be nice to put it in the Sandstorm **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: David DOUGLAS ('62) Okay, I don't think I ever met Jeanie CRIGLER ('62), but her birthday was yesterday [3/22] and nobody wished her a happy birthday. I looked up her picture in the Columbian and she is certainly pretty enough to deserve one, so Jeanie, I hope you had a happy birthday, from a fellow Class of '62 member. -David DOUGLAS ('62) ~ Mesa, AZ The pool is finally warm enough to swim in again. It has sure helped my blood sugar considerably **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: Maren SMYTH ('63 & '64) Re: 2015 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race http://www.iditarod.com/ - Official Iditarod Site More people have summited Mt. Everest was two months camping on the mountain and two WEEKS of the Iditarod was harder. 2015 was Cindy's 3rd attempt to finish the Iditarod. 66 IDITAROD FINISHERS in 2015 01 Dallas Seavey/#46 finished w/10 dogs 02 Mitch Seavey/#18 w/10 dogs 03 Aaron Burmeister/#63 w/9 dogs 04 Jessie Royer/#3 w/12 dogs 05 Aliy Zirkle/#32 w/13 dogs 06 Joar Leifseth Ulso/#16 w/8 dogs 07 Jeff King/#59 w/13 dogs 08 Wade Marrs/#65 w/8 dogs 09 Ken Anderson/#36 w/13 dogs 10 Nicolas Petit/#12 w/14 dogs 11 Travis Beals/#56 w/8 dogs 12 Paul Gebhardt/#28 w/11 dogs 13 Kelly Maixner/#9 w/10 dogs 14 Peter Kaiser/#54 w/11 dogs 15 Christian Turner/#73 w/11 dogs 16 Ray Redington, Jr./#34 w/10 dogs 17 Thomas Waerner/#8 w/11 dogs 18 Jason Campeau/#70 w11 dogs 19 Hugh Neff/#24 w/10 dogs 20 Michelle Phillips/#6 w/12 dogs 21 John Baker /#78 w/12 dogs 22 Martin Buser/#4 w/11 dogs 23 Richie Diehl/#42 w/10 dogs 24 Nathan Schroeder/#26 w/8 dogs 25 Mats Pettersson/#55 w/12 dogs 26 Scott Smith/#69 w/10 dogs 27 Paige Drobny/#58 w/12 dogs 28 Anna Berington/#39 w/12 dogs 29 Kristy Berington/#11 w/11 dogs 30 Jodi Bailey/#22 w/11 dogs 31 DeeDee Jonrowe/#29 w/15 dogs 32 Curt Perano/#21 w/13 dogs 33 Justin Savidis/#19 w/11 dogs 34 Charley Bejna/#38 w/9 dogs 35 Seth Barnes/#23 w/11 dogs 36 Benjamin Harper/#37 w/10 dogs 37 Linwood Fiedler/#27 w/12 dogs 36 Allen Moore/#57 w/14 dogs 39 Mike Santos/#61 w/12 dogs 40 Rohn Buser/#31 w/11 dogs 41 Matt Failor/#15 w/10 dogs 42 Jason Mackey/#72 w/11 dogs 43 Lance Mackey/#30 w/8 dogs 44 Rick Casillo/#52 w/10 dogs 45 Timothy Hunt/#68 w/12 dogs 46 Laura Allaway/#49 w/14 dogs 47 Monica Zappa/#53 w/12 dogs 48 Heidi Sutter/#76 w/10 dogs 49 Lisbet Norris/#41 w/14 dogs 50 Rob Cooke/#2 w/12 dogs 51 Chuck Schaeffer/#67 w/7 dogs 52 Brian Wilmshurst/#50 w/11 dogs 53 Yvonne Dabakk/#33 w/8 dogs 54 Lev Shvarts/#40 w/9 dogs 55 Yuka Honda/#60 w/10 dogs 56 Alan Stevens/#77 w/10 dogs 57 Becca Moore/#47 w/10 dogs 58 Steve Watkins/#66 w/11 dogs 59 Mark Selland/#17 w/10 dogs 60 Alan Eischens/#7 w/14 dogs 61 Isabelle Travadon/#43 w/13 dogs 62 Marcelle Fressineau/#25 w/9 dogs 63 Lachlan Clarke/#5 w/10 dogs 64 Cindy Gallea/#64 w/10 dogs 65 Trent Herbst/#75 w/10 dogs RED LANTERN 66 Cindy Abbott/#10 w/13 dogs DISQUALIFIED / SCRATCHED (12) 01 Brent Sass/#71 02 Zoya DeNure/#79 03 Gwenn Bogart/#14 04 Christine Roalofs/#62 05 Gerald Sousa/#44 06 Philip Walters/#51 07 Ellen Halverson/#35 08 Jan Steves/#45 09 Katherine Keith/#74 10 Jim Lanier/#13 11 Bryan Bearss/#48 12 Scott Janssen/#20 Scott Janssen/#20 scratched at Koyuk and tells how Lance Mackey saved his dog team Lance mushing Janssen's 11 dogs in the lead pulling Lance's 10 dogs, Lance and Lance's sled. Graduated in '64... went to work at "Stop 'n Go" (Kennewick Highlands... later changed name to, "Max' Broiler)... loved working as a waitress...'66 got married to a "Coastie" (Dale Gray ('58wb), moved to Seattle... went to work for Kelly Girl Services (temp agency)... '67, first daughter born... 3 months later, Dale went to Viet Nam... I moved to Wishram, WA to be close to my mom and stepdad... he worked for Burlington-Northern RR... I got a job in the RR "beanery" (diner) as a waitress (told you I LOVED being a waitress *grin*)... '68, Dale came home from 'Nam and we moved to Vashon Island, WA where he was stationed at Point Robinson Point (lighthouse station)... '70, he was temporarily stationed at the Coast Guard Station in Kennewick... second daughter born in '71... 3 months later, we were transferred to Astoria, Oregon... '73 we were transferred to Long Beach, CA. In '74, after 8 years, marriage ended, went to work for UPS... remarried in '76 (he worked for ARCO); got tired of working for UPS, went to work in elementary school as librarian... '85 husband got transferred to Bakersfield, CA... in '96, after 20 years, that marriage ended. by then, I had grandkids and was content to babysit them. BEST job I ever had. In '09, was diagnosed with cancer and oldest grandson was killed in an automobile accident (between cancer and his death, it just about "did" me in)... because of health problems, I moved in with oldest daughter and her family... in 2014, son-in-law got a job in Idaho, so we moved to Kuna (Boise area)... outside of living in Richland, this is the BEST place I ever lived... love the weather (4 Seasons) slower pace of life... we live in the country... no "hustle and bustle" of the city. My life might not have been as exciting or outstanding or monumental as others, but I have had a GREAT life and my experiences have forged who I am, and I like who I am, so wouldn't change a thing. *grin* I'm content to be "grandma to 9" (rest in the arms of the angels, Anthony) grandkids... they have made my life worth living and given me a reason to get up, each and every day. -Linda REINING ('64) ~ Kuna, ID temps are in the 40's... I'm loving this weather **************************************************************** **************************************************************** >>From: Shirley COLLINGS Haskins ('66) Re: NCAA Men's' Basketball Tournament No 2.
