Re: Hanford Tours

Yesterday [my wife] Ruth [NAB} and I went on the B Reactor tour
here in Richland, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has
an interest on what "went on" here during WW II and beyond. The
tour, provided by Dept. of Energy folks here, is very well done.
It starts with a brief video and briefing at their tour site
(off Horn Rapids Road), then a bus tour on a comfortable tour
bus out to the B reactor for about a 2 1/2 facility tour
that features several talks by docents, self-guided tour
opportunities, etc. The bus tour continues in an informative
circle through the site, showing the locations of all 9
reactors, other buildings and sites, a distant view of the
vitrification plant under construction, the locations of Hanford
and White Bluffs. Tour is narrated by a guide through the trip,
which takes about 4 1/2 hours start to finish.

Tours are by reservation only, and fill up quickly each year.
However, there are often cancellations and seats available on
short notice if you live locally or are here in the Tri-Cities
for a few days.

A new tour has been added that is more oriented toward prewar
history and the communities that existed before 1942. Site info
is available at http://www.hanford.gov/page.cfm/HanfordSiteTours
scroll down the page till you see "Hanford Site Tours:" and
click the "new URL" (which is the same as the URL above. Weird):
 http://www.hanford.gov/page.cfm/HanfordSiteTours

Seems to me a couple of our alumni (brothers) had a hand in
preserving the B reactor site. If so, my hat is off to them!

Re: slow outa the gate

Today so I guess I'll hafta keep it short to make the publishing
time... being in Utah made me think of regional differences...
I remember many kids being enamored with the sauce they had at
the Arctic Circle when it was across from The Uptown... In Utah,
that sauce is served at all burger joints and they just call it
French fry sauce... Much like Richland kids and their French
fries and tarter... when I went into the Marine Corps I realized
I didn't like catsup on fries so I started using mayo... still
do unless tarter is available... so it's time for another
Bomber-babe from the Gold Medal class to celebrate... HAPPY
BIRTHDAY, Kay SITTIG ('63) on your special day, June 11, 2015!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
