Re: Survey

Harry WINSOR ('60), works with Kate Brown, a Professor at the
University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), and author of
Plutopia, and others. Harry called me and said Kate wishes to
be at our Club 40 celebration in September. I then received an
e-mail from her explaining what they are working on.

A project has been put together as a cutting-edge mapping
project funded by the Imaging Research Center at UMBC and they
seek our participation. They are focusing on those who grew up
near the Hanford facility in the 1940s and 1950s.

This is strictly voluntary and no names or address will be asked
for. Their software allows anyone to take a survey on an ipad
or iphone and it will be sent to a mapping program to be viewed
later. They are asking even if you have no health issues or if
your family has had issues from living in the area, then they
will map either outcome.

Harry says their purpose is two-fold. First, they intend to
utilize the WWWeb to allow populations near sites of radioactive
and toxic releases to integrate community health data with
global health data from similar exposure sites. Secondly, they
hope to gauge the level of interest in the new form of community
epidemiology.

Kate, Harry and their helpers would be out in the lobby at
their own table with further information and electronic devices,
September 11th. It will not interfere with Club 40. They would
be available to anyone who is interested in answering their
survey and then seeing the mapping in a few weeks to see where
the groups of healthy or ill people lived.

Nothing has been settled yet, but I am interested in hearing
from you Club 40 members who read the Alumni Sandstorm.

If you are interested in seeing more of Kate Brown's
accomplishments and awards, Google her at Kate Brown, Professor
of History, UMBC. It will tell you a lot!! Harry's class of 1960
will be having their 55 year reunion, and he plans to attend.
Kate is planning to attend other local class reunions for this
same survey project.

Re: Club 40 Reps

We are still in need of a representative from the following
classes to be on the Board of Director of Club 40:
1947, 1948, 1950, 1951, 1957, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1966,
1967, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974. Please, PLEASE step
forward and join the Board and be a spokesman for your class.
If you have a classmate who is interested, have them e-mail me.
We would like to have 2 members from each class and in some of
these classes, we do have at least one. 1970 stepped up and
joined our group!!! Yay!!! Now we need more of the 1960s and
1970s to come share in the fun!! THANKS!

Re: yipes

And I was complaining that summer wasn't here yet... duh...
drove to lunch inna roadster across the valley... knees were
burned to a crisp... decided to take a covered car to the
Roadster show... I don't feel any older... but I feel older...
if you unnerstan... fine if not... lucky you... the roadster
should run cooler than any car because it is wide open... but
it doesn't... was over 200 by the time I got home and fuel pump
(sitting in a "cool" place) was ticking like crazy (tank was
full for the smart Alecks out there)... tried replacing powerful
mechanical fan with a more powerful one but not enough room
for the larger pitch and wider blades... no where to move the
radiator forward so... %&($#*(+)_((*^#%%!!!!!!!!!!!! so just
take the good with the not so good and move on... besides it's
almost time for Richland... yes yes yes... By-the-way, I asked
on face book if anyone wanted to host the Saturday night party
and got no takers so I guess we'll just hang out and watch the
traffic lights when they start blinking... that's always pretty
exciting... and speaking of exciting, we gots two '65ers
celebrating today so HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Gail GHIRARDO ('65... an
all night Spudnut party sounds appealing) and Mike SAMS ('65)
on your special day, June 17, 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
