Re: fire ants

i live in rural Southeastern Louisiana about an hour from New
Orleans and Maren. Fire ants are everywhere…especially after a
heavy rain. The cattle grazing fields are loaded with thousands
of mounds. They must be immune to them, but I'm not! The bumps
stick around until they dry up and heal... scratch them, and
they get worse. They pop up in yards every week just in time to
mow the lawn. Sometimes the mounds will be a foot high. I've
heard of people being hospitalized because of huge numbers of
bites. Mud dabbers (sp?), deer flies and love bugs love it here,
too!! I always wonder how the early explorers and settlers could
even survive with this summer weather and environment. Imagine
Spanish explorers in their metal-plate outfits or Northern Civil
War soldiers fighting here while wearing WOOL uniforms. Thank
God for air conditioning!

-Frank WHITESIDE ('63) ~ Still scratching and using baking soda
      and vinegar!

[AND... about 24 hours AFTER they bite, you can count how many
by counting the little yellowish/white heads that form on each
bite. Fun to pop, but makes them itch more... -Maren]

Re: Richland

All packed and ready to go... I have been wishing the "W" girls
('60, '63, '66, and '67) Happy Birthday for a number of years
now (not that any of them have aged a day) and have never had
trubel spelling their name until the last couple of days... I
know I will be in for whippings, beatings and a dunk in the
river this weekend. If you don't hear from me after this weekend
be sure and put in a missing persons report... not that it will
do much good as I expect I'll be in the trunk of a black car
headed for Wikiup... Doug HAWKINS ('62) if you hear weird noises
from the trunk lemme out!!!

Can't wait to get home for a great weekend and see everyone!

Re: Bombers in Las Vegas?

Anyone in the know,

I heard tale of a Bomber gathering in Las Vegas that is
forthcoming. I checked the All Bomber calendar and for a
few months out but did not spot such an event. Does anyone
know of Bombers in Vegas happening?

Thanks,
-Bruce STRAND ('69) ~ Cooling down to 110° for tomorrow's high
in the Valley of the Sun.
