Ruth and I lived near Branson, MO for 7 years - we left there nearly 3 years ago. Our home was in a rural area on a typical Ozarks ridge. We put up with all kinds of creepy crawly things, including copperhead snakes, rattlers, etc. Armadillos dug the yard up during the dark of night. Local deer weren't afraid of anything, once or twice chased our lil Schnauzer. Ha! Coyotes wandered around... But my WORST pests were chiggers. They are a form of tiny spider, almost invisible to the naked eye. I was out picking poke greens one day - a few hours later I started itching everywhere from the waist down. It seems chiggers burrow their heads into the skin and, on humans, promptly die. There is nothing to be done at that point - try and ease the agony with calamine lotion, antihistamines, I guess... In a week or so you get back to normal. In the meantime, I lived a life of misery... I didn't pick any more poke greens after that experience... -Dick WIGHT ('52) ~ in Richland where the daytime temperature today is hotter than Phoenix! *************************************************************** *************************************************************** >>From: Bob Carlson, aka Mike CLOWES ('54) Before we head west to escape the heat; I'd best do this or she'll never speak to me again. I am referring to the rituals that designate a Bomber Babe birthday. You know, the tipping of the ol' propeller beanie and the singing or shouting "Happy Birthday!". And she is a Bomber Babe, make no mistake about that. I certainly hope her current husband treats her to a good dinner tonight (so she doesn't wilt in a hot kitchen). He has been known to think that McDonald's is the epitome of haut cuisine; come on man give the Olive Garden a try. On that note let me wish Jeanette DUNCAN ('54) the happiest returns of the day. -Bob Carlson, aka Mike CLOWES ('54) ~ Mount Angel, OR where weather guessers can't make up their minds on what yesterday's high temp was. *************************************************************** *************************************************************** >>From: Pam EHINGER Edinger (Blue Ribbon Class of '67) To: Tom VERELLEN ('60) When I read your entry on 6-27-15, you had me laughing!! My middle daughter's name is Deadra, but her family name is DeDe. When she was younger I would call her DeDe WEENIE CHILLI!! Oh how she would pitch a fit!! But I loved teasing her!! She is now a great mom of 2 beautiful daughters & a great husband!!
