Re: Celilo Falls

Before moving to Richland in 1944 my family lived in White
Salmon, WA, which is across the Columbia River from Hood River,
OR. We traveled to The Dalles frequently for shopping of clothes
and shoes primarily. Whenever we did, Dad would go to the falls
and buy a Salmon from one of the Indian fishermen. That was
always a special treat. Maybe that's why I like Salmon so well.

Dawgonit, another Bomber of my acquaintance is having a birthday
today. My recollection of him is kinda fuzzy, but that's what
happens after a number of years goes by. Don't think I've run
across him since high school (and our diplomas reflect that we
graduated from Columbia High School). So, let me tip the ol'
propeller beanie and give a "Happy Birthday!" shout to Bill
MURRAY ('54). Have a cool one, guy.

To those Colts and Broncs who attended and graduated from
Richland High School (Southend variety), you are keepers of the
flame and even valued members of Club 40. Even the Beavers get
to join that Club.

forecast has an 80 per cent chance of rain on Saturday.

According to my daughter on Facebook Richland High School was
mentioned on Fox News Channel's late night "Red Eye" program
last night. I had to ask her what was said on the program. She
replied, "They weren't real fond of the 'bombers' mascot." I had
to ask who 'they' was – RHS students or the personalities on Red
Eye. Haven't heard back yet. I added the comment, "We alumni of
Columbia High School (as it was named back then) are very proud
of our mascot, which is a bomb." I attached a picture of the
bomb taken at the 62 fifty year class reunion.

Re: In England

I am loving every hour of being in England, not a drop of rain,
sunshine and clouds; if I'm on the train, the tube or walking,
or at the home of my very English friend after living here for
42 years, (she married a Brit after giving an American a try),
I'm enjoying my time here.

Today we are off to have "a coffee" in a very old pub here in
the village of Goring, then go to see a stately home!! Reminds
me of visiting Douton Abby, but they are booked solid this
entire summer, so that's off the list.

Happy Birthday to the BEAULIEU twins (from the plutonium class
of '62) [on 7/22],

and to Diane DAVENPORT ('62):

I went by the Tower of London yesterday on my way to a ride on
the Thames, and I remembered our chance meeting at a night
ceremony there in 1996.

Other than that, I've not run into a single soul I know, so it's
nice to come to Jan's in the evening and talk about our day over
her dinner. (Contrary to popular rumor, I've always found
English food to be quite delicious!!

Tomorrow I'm back in London ticking off my list: still want to
see a play, I've heard "Warhorse" is very good, and I'll do the
National Portrait Gallery, and something at Buckingham Palace,
hopefully another garden!!

-Helen CROSS Kirk ('62) ~ from Jolly ole' London!!
