Long post To: Long time friend, Steve CARSON (Championship Class of '58) Since you brought it up, I measured the "Resolve Stain Stick" and it is 5 1/2 inches long and 2 inches wide in oval shape. As to what's in my pockets... As a 25 year member of the Society of Explosives Engineers, the "Responsible Person" for a Federal "High Explosives Manufacturing License" and a respected Pyrotechnician for over 50 years, it varies widely. Besides Wallet (containing numerous licenses including a Concealed Pistol License, money, credit cards, and a list of critical phone numbers), you might usually find, nail clippers, car keys, and a very sharp knife for cutting fuses. I might also have a circuit tester for electronic ignition of Fireworks or other explosives, some small wire connectors, pieces of wire I save for disposal rather then litter the work site. And when I am with my wife I carry her albuterol in case of asthma attack. I generally wear the same brand of "cargo" pants with large extra pockets that many Federal Agents and Bomb Techs wear as when working on various projects there are some specialty tools and other items that we use at times. When I am teaching some group I also have a laser pointer and controls for the video and LED projector. And of course, my cell phone. I have a box on the bench at the foot of my bed that I empty my pockets into each night. And, Yes, I sometimes wonder where an item came from and what is it? I have a vase on my night stand that gets any coins in my pockets each night. It is about 8 inches in diameter and I dump it once a year in the coin counter at my Credit Union. There is usually enough for Jackie and I to celebrate our anniversary at Canlis. Alice Canlis is a friend, and I have twice staged special miniature fireworks displays just outside of the windows for special events held at that fine restaurant. We always get the same table facing east at a time when it is still light and turns dark. Yes it is expensive, but for that special night, more then worth it to be pampered and fed a great meal. They even have a person who stops every few minutes and with a special tool removes any crumbs from the fine linen. We call him the "Crumb Snatcher". We have a couple of this kind of thing that we do that makes life together very special. I will be 75 in January. Despite the aches and pains of age, my health is still reasonable so I have made a commitment to my partner for another year. Quoting the line in the movie "Patton", "God help me, I do love it so". Of course he was speaking of War, not entertaining people with fire. The very next day I sold a very large display to an entity in southern Oregon for Christmas Eve. We have an Oregon Licensed Pyro Operator who is Jewish and said he would work the display. Thankfully fellow Bomber Alum Chuck LOLLIS ('64) really likes to work on displays. He is well experienced and will be invaluable for that event. Unfortunately after we had contracted for it, circumstances are such that our Jewish operator cannot do it. I am the only license left. So I will cancel Christmas with my wife and do it. Then at 6:30am Christmas morning I have to board a Horizon Flight from Medford, OR to SeaTac to catch my flight to Dutch Harbor, AK, via Anchorage, to start on their huge New Years display. After I get back to Anchorage from Dutch AM on January 4th, I am taking 2 weeks for some quality time with Jackie. OK 'nuff said. I close with a prayer for our nation after the election tomorrow. It is 2AM [on 11/8] so polls will open in 6 hours on the east coast. -J. The Bomber lunch used to be a place where we met, ate, and shared our experiences as Bombers. A couple of people have turned it into a "sharing" of health issues over and over again. Also I made a quiet political comment to the person sitting to the left of me, and was blown away by the lady sitting across the table (who I was NOT talking to); she stated that she didn't want to hear political comments (I think shes right about that & I shouldn't have brought it up at the luncheon, even though I wasn't actually talking to HER), then she proceeded to expound HER point view for about ten minutes while maintaining that I had no right to express my point of view. The luncheon last month (at J.D. Diner) was poorly attended, with a total of 8 people. I was disappointed. I remember when the place was full and everyone had a great time. -Deedee WILLOX Loiseau ('64) ~ Burbank, WA ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: David RIVERS ('65) Re: summertime and the livin' USED to be easy... dang... well at least I'm still in shorts... started Valentine's day and still too warm for long pants... but today I took a couple of faucets apart to fix leaks... now it used to be it was either the little stopper/washer inna bottom or the seat... not any more... I hit the local "hardware" store and no luck... but of course to call the chains hardware stores is a laugh... used to be able to get stuff at Ace, but except for nuts and bolts, Ace is worse than the chains these days... so I took the things to lunch with the boyz and the plumber said "good luck"... now that didn't sound hugely encouraging to me... went to two plumbing stores and no luck finding the "cartridges" I needed... these particular faucets have no markings on them so I don't even know the brands... I will NOT give up damnit! ah well I'm sure the two Gold Medal Bombers are having much better days than I so HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Kandy SMITH ('63) and Dick BOEHNING ('63) on your special day, November 9, 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!! -David RIVERS ('65) ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: Cathy GEIER ('66) I mentioned about 2 years ago ideas for getting more contributions. They did not "take" at the time. I find that daily emails, tho I enjoy reading the Sandstorm, sometimes have nothing relevant to me. I would love to see more articles re: life in other cities and the Tri-Cities. How are Bombers making "big" after graduation from college and big careers to 'older' person life as retired or retiring people information. What is coming up in the Tri-Cities which local residents love, share, contribute to as the area grows.Who has new jobs, cities, children, grandchildren, travels??? I am a yoga writer in Seattle. (Seattle Yoga News, mindbodygreen) I have been deciding about moving to another city or smaller for last 20 or so years of my life. This does not come lightly. Will I go back to Richland where I miss Seattle and it's trees, PCC, natural healthcare, yoga from so many long time friends and a dynamic gym as well as many forms of spiritual expressin, creative expression via Fremont Arts Council and my favorite Green Lake? This is versus remaining in a city which now has more crime, traffic, homelessness (people shuffled around - now 3 living in doorways one block from me; blocks of tents visible on my 3 block walk from the bus stop to my new for-fun job at CenturyLink field). In 3 years my rent has been increased over 400/month in a poorly maintained building... in beautiful Wallingford. Our 50 year reunion was wonderful, yet not quite long enough for me to really check in with friends (just a short few moments those 50 years flashed by) to hear about their lives and how they flourish in the area. So again Maren, here are random thoughts from Seattle side in my loved apartment looking out on my courtyard for many years on pre election night... You can print this if you wish. Love to hear from folks! Sincerely, -Cathy GEIER ('66) ************************************************************* ************************************************************* not a memorial - only INFO today >>Clarence FULCHER ('51-RIP) Graveside: TOMORROW, November 10, 2016, 10am Terrace Heights Memorial Park, 3001 Terrace Heights Dr., Yakima Celebration of Life: November 10, 2016, 3pm Sandberg Event Center, 331 S. 41st Ave, West Richland.
