Just drove home from the Portland Airport 1:30 AM. After two Horizon flights down and back to Medford, OR I have a signed contract for a large display Christmas Eve. A few years back I did a birthday display on Christmas Day and we do a number of smaller Holiday Festival displays. But never Christmas Eve. Nobody on the Pyro Net has done one. Except for two single guys with no children, (one is a Bomber alum) not one single pyro from anywhere in the NW, would even discuss working Christmas Eve. I have it all designed and laid out in a notebook. We will pre-assemble the tubes in racks so that all we have to do is hand-truck them out of the truck and down the ramp to position. That will take a couple of hours and then we have two full days to load it. One person could do it in that time. So we have lots of pyro product and it will be a very nice display. At this point it is totally confidential, but at some point I will be able to let you alums living in that general area where and when and you can attend if you so choose. After clean up that night I will go the airport and snooze in a chair until the 6:30 AM Flt to SeaTac to catch a flight to Anchorage to have Christmas dinner with my wife and friends as I have to be on the first flt out to Dutch Harbor, AK on the 26th to start on the NYE display. I do still very much enjoy "Entertaining People With Fire" but when big displays go back to back near 3000 miles apart it gets a little tricky. To all alums and their families and friends enjoy the "Breaking of Bread" and give thanks in your own way. -J. Richland will now host Skyview from Vancouver, WA in the state semi-finals next weekend either at Lampson or Edgar Brown in Pasco. Re: Bombers in College Sports ~ 11/19/16 Herald "Richland's BRADLEY ('15) leads Baylor into NCAA cross country championships. Lindsey BRADLEY's transfer from the University of Washington to Baylor has worked out quite well for the former Richland High School running standout. BRADLEY, a sophomore, will lead the Bears into the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday (November 19) in Terre Haute, IN. Last year at UW, BRADLEY ran in the top seven three times. But struggling through stress fractures in both legs, she placed 57th overall and ninth among the Huskies at the Pac-12 Championships. Several other teams with Mid-Columbia runners will appear in the NCAA D-I championships, including the Washington State men [junior Michael WILLIAMS ('14), Richland] and Oklahoma State men [senior Anthony Armstrong, Kamiakin]." Re: UPDATE on NCAA cross country ~ 11/19/16 Tri-City Herald Washington State's Michael WILLIAMS ('14) finished 30th at the NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Terre Haute, IN. WILLIAMS covered the 10-kilometer course in 30 minutes, 16.6 seconds. He earned All-America status after placing in the top 40. On the women's side, Baylor's Lindsey BRADLEY ('15) finished the 6K race in 175th place (21:13.8). The Bears were 27th, and Oregon claimed the team championship. -Shirley COLLINGS Haskins ('66) ~ Richland ************************************************************* ************************************************************* That's it for today.
